Atelier Impopulaire is an artists’ collaborative founded in 2012 by Pia Bolognesi and Giulio Bursi.

Its practice is primarily time-based and includes post-performance, moving image, text and theory. The work of Atelier Impopulaire investigates the identity of the image, deconstructing and reinterpreting its politics of representation and exploring the social and the aesthetic environment through traditional devices and experimental media.

We collaborated and invited to work with us: Morgan Fisher (USA - Atelier Impopulaire, Milan), Aldo Tambellini (USA - Centre Pompidou, Paris - The Tanks at Tate Modern, London - MoMA, New York - Festival du Nouveau Cinéma, Montreal), Bruce McClure (USA - Atelier Impopulaire, Milan), Double Negative Collective (CA - Atelier Impopulaire, Milan), Sandra Gibson & Luis Recoder (USA - Atelier Impopulaire, Milan), Claudio Rocchetti (ITA, DE - Atelier Impopulaire, Milan), Silvia Maglioni & Graeme Thomson (UK, ITA, FR - Mains d’Oeuvres, Paris), Margaret Honda (USA - Atelier Impopulaire, Milan), Lorna Boschman (CA - Atelier Impopulaire, Milan), with site-specific artworks, installations, performances, exhibitions, workshops and seminars.

In April 2014 Atelier Impopulaire has launched the editorial project AI SPLIT.
